Detailed description
Currently it is not possible to use citation() with the "Matrix" package. I guess it is an issue with a special character.

Closing, notably as the OP never tried R-SIG-Mac or other ways to find more about the problem on his end..

It works perfectly for me... and probably most people.
This maybe a problem with your setup on the Mac.
